Halian, the global leader in recruitment and IT services has unveiled its analysis of the latest recruitment industry trends, highlighting how recruitment practices are set to evolve in the face of emerging technologies and shifting workforce expectations. Leveraging data from credible industry sources, the analysis highlights significant trends, including the use of artificial intelligence (AI), the introduction of hybrid work models, and skills-based hiring practices, while emphasising its implications for employers and job seekers.

Artificial Intelligence and Automation

The growing role of AI in recruitment is revolutionising traditional hiring practices. Globally, 85% of employers recognise its value, with many adopting AI tools to streamline workflows, enhance candidate experiences, and address talent shortages. Reflecting this transformative potential, 79% of employers believe AI will soon possess the capability to make hiring decisions autonomously. In the Middle East, organisations are increasingly integrating AI-driven processes, positioning the technology as a cornerstone of strategic decision-making as it continues to mature.

Hybrid Work Models

Hybrid work has emerged as the preferred model in the Middle East. Post-pandemic, 48% of employees globally continue to work remotely, and 62% expect flexibility from their employers. Many organisations in the region are embracing hybrid work setups, enhancing productivity while meeting employee expectations for better work-life integration.

Skills-Based Hiring

Globally, 81% of companies are prioritising skills over traditional qualifications, a trend gaining traction in the Middle East. Employers are increasingly evaluating candidates based on their capabilities rather than academic backgrounds, aligning with the demands of rapidly evolving industries such as AI, renewable energy, and data analytics.

Future Gen Z in the Workforce

It is estimated that Gen Z will comprise 27% of the workforce in 2025, bringing unique expectations for career growth, diversity, and well-being. Given that they are the first digitally native generation, they demand workplaces that reflect their tech-savvy nature and prioritise flexibility, inclusivity, and mental health support. Middle Eastern organisations are responding with tailored initiatives, including mentorship programmes, upskilling opportunities, and inclusivity-focused policies, to attract and retain this influential demographic.

Diversity and Inclusion

Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) are now central to recruitment strategies worldwide. Two out of three job seekers globally emphasise diversity in their employment decisions. This means that, whether a company actively prioritises diversity, most candidates are nevertheless evaluating it when researching potential employers and during the interview process.

In the Middle East, companies are implementing inclusive hiring practices alongside government policies such as Emiratisation and Saudisation to build a truly representative workforce that offers meaningful opportunities to all and fostering environments where diverse talent can thrive.

Commenting on the trends, Stuart Fry, CEO of Halian, said: “As the recruitment landscape evolves, staying ahead requires a deep understanding of both global trends and regional nuances. The Middle East, with its dynamic economic and technological advancements, exemplifies how these shifts are creating unprecedented opportunities. At Halian, our mission is to empower employers and job seekers with the insights and tools needed to thrive in this transformative era.”

Halian’s analysis underscores the Middle East’s growing significance in the global recruitment landscape. The region’s recruitment market is projected to reach USD 86 billion by 2028, driven by opportunities in the renewable energy, tourism, and technology sectors. These industries alone are expected to generate approximately 33 million new jobs by 2030, highlighting the region’s strategic importance. Governments in the UAE and KSA are also driving digital transformation, creating demand for professionals skilled in AI, cybersecurity, and cloud computing.

These trends also highlight the importance of adaptability and innovation for navigating the future of work. Employers and job seekers are encouraged to leverage these trends to remain competitive in a rapidly changing market.
