Qatar Leads the Charge in AI-Driven Tourism Innovation

Qatar is at the forefront of leveraging modern technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) to shape its future. Speaking at Qatar Travel Mart (QTM), Dr. Fethi Filali, Chief Technology Officer at Qatar Mobility Innovations Center (QMIC), detailed how Qatar is advancing its National Vision 2030 and redefining the travel industry with AI.
Dr. Filali emphasised AI’s role in enhancing visitor experiences by analysing behaviour and preferences while prioritising ethical data practices. “Every AI solution must provide transparency on data storage, management, and purpose. Adherence to Qatar’s data protection regulations is key to building trust and ensuring compliance,” he stated.
Highlighting Qatar’s ambitions, Dr. Filali noted, “AI is pivotal in empowering visitor services, creating innovative, personalised solutions, and attracting more travellers to Qatar. This aligns with the National Vision 2030 and the country’s robust AI strategy, which is centred on six pillars: education, data access, employment, business, research, and ethics.”
The nation’s strategic approach positions it as a leader in digital transformation, driving economic diversification, transportation efficiency, and world-class AI applications. At Hamad International Airport (HIA), state-of-the-art smart systems deliver seamless travel experiences, ensuring passengers enjoy world-class amenities.
Recently, Qatar hosted AI Week 2024 at Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP), attracting global experts and startups to showcase AI innovations. The event underscored Qatar’s role as a hub for technological advancement, aligning with its digital and strategic objectives, including the Qatar National Vision 2030.
Reflecting on QTM, Dr. Filali participated in a panel discussion on digital tourism. “AI, IoT, and technologies like AR/VR are revolutionising tourism by creating personalised, immersive experiences for travellers. This event grows yearly, attracting key stakeholders such as Visit Qatar, Katara Hospitality, and international exhibitors showcasing innovative tourism projects.”
He concluded, “In this era of rapid technological advancement, embracing AI is essential to deliver tailored experiences and ensure Qatar remains a top destination for global travellers.”
