InterSystems, a data technology provider specialising in scalability, interoperability, and speed, has announced that King Abdullah Medical Complex Jeddah (KAMCJ) and Maternity and Children’s Specialist Hospital (MCSH) have successfully upgraded their Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system to the latest version of InterSystems TrakCare® unified health information system.

KAMCJ, a 500-bed hospital under the Ministry of Health, offers elective medical and surgical services alongside a state-of-the-art laboratory, trauma centre, and outpatient clinics catering to North Jeddah. MCSH, a 300-bed facility, provides specialist care for women’s health, delivered by highly qualified medical professionals using advanced equipment and technology. The hospital also manages emergency cases through its dedicated department.

The EMR upgrade marks a significant step in the hospitals’ digital transformation, aimed at enhancing patient care and optimising operations. Effective user adoption is crucial for the success of digital healthcare initiatives. The latest version of TrakCare features an intuitive interface that supports multiple devices and care settings, ensuring seamless access to patient information.

The hospitals have also implemented unified modules for intensive care, anaesthesia, and maternity, eliminating data silos by making patient information instantly accessible across departments. Additionally, their laboratory information management system (LIMS) has been enhanced with upgraded blood bank services via InterSystems TrakCare Laboratory Enterprise®.

The smooth implementation was driven by a collaborative effort between KAMCJ, MCSH, and InterSystems. Multi-disciplinary teams engaged stakeholders, communicated leadership goals for next-generation healthcare services, and delivered a structured user training programme with support from InterSystems’ implementation specialists.

“Our success is driven by continuous growth and collaboration at all levels,” said Maha Hetaimish, Health Application Manager, King Abdullah Medical Complex Jeddah. “We are proud of this achievement, as it directly contributes to the well-being of our patients, ensuring that we make informed decisions to provide the best care during their most critical moments. True success is the result of teamwork, commitment, and a shared vision. We are proud of this milestone, as it allows us to enhance the care we provide and ensure we make the right decisions for our patients when they need us most.”

“This upgrade is a key milestone for both KAMCJ and MCSH in their journey toward digital excellence. By embracing InterSystems’ advanced technologies, they are not only improving operational efficiencies but also enhancing patient care and supporting their ongoing commitment to healthcare innovation,” said Ali Abi Raad, Managing Director, Middle East, India, and South Africa, InterSystems. Ali emphasized that, “This joint success reflects KAMCJ’s, MCSH’s, InterSystems’, and the leaders of the Jeddah Second Health Cluster’s shared commitment to collaboration and innovation in driving healthcare excellence.”

TrakCare allows users to securely access patient records via popular web browsers on any device, anytime and anywhere. The Mobile Enabled User Interface (MEUI) extends this functionality to mobile devices with user-friendly designs, facilitating real-time patient observations and treatment updates. This mobile capability enables healthcare professionals to make timely and informed decisions while spending more time with patients.

The upgrade also introduced new integrations with third-party computing solutions and enhanced interoperability with the National Platform for Health and Insurance Exchange Services (NPHIES). InterSystems was among the first multinational digital health firms to achieve NPHIES compliance for insurance services in Saudi Arabia. NPHIES, a unified electronic services platform launched by the Cooperative Health Insurance Council (CCHI) and the National Centre for Health Information (NHIC), is led by SEHATI and aims to transform the Kingdom’s healthcare sector. The initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 strategy to enhance healthcare quality through cutting-edge technology.
