Tackling AI Bias
Addressing the challenge of bias in AI, Karl highlights how the issue stems from the data used to train these systems. “The systems have been trained on data that is biased because of its dataset,” he explains. However, he sees potential for AI to mitigate bias by leveraging synthetic data. “For that to be possible, the model itself needs to teach itself and, in some cases, create data to fill gaps.”

Karl emphasizes the importance of adding a “quality layer” to synthetic data, ensuring it complements areas where existing data is insufficient. He draws on his experience with AI image generation tools like MidJourney, observing their evolution: “When we started, every human image looked like a photo model. Now, models are being trained to better align results with user prompts, showing the power of continuous learning.”

Treating AI as an Employee
Karl takes an innovative approach to integrating AI into workflows by treating AI capabilities like virtual employees. “We create virtual employees for specific tasks and even name them,” he says. “We’ve got John, a graphic designer, and Frederick, a back-end developer. It makes it easier for us to discuss development and build a company, knowing each ’employee’ has a defined role.” This perspective not only humanises AI but also streamlines its integration into business processes.

Who Should Regulate AI?
On the topic of AI regulation, Karl acknowledges the complexity of the issue and reflects on past discussions, such as the hearings with Mark Zuckerberg. “When asked why Facebook wasn’t doing things differently, Zuckerberg responded that it wasn’t his place to regulate—it was up to governments. And he was right.” Karl believes regulation should come from governments, not corporations. “A company can’t create laws to regulate itself. As long as we have countries, it’s the responsibility of the governments to enforce regulations.”
