Space42, a UAE-based AI-driven SpaceTech company, has successfully launched its Thuraya 4 (T4) telecommunications satellite aboard SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, USA.

The launch is a pivotal moment for Space42, marking its advancement as a provider of geospatial data, AI-powered analytics platforms, non-terrestrial networks (NTN), and secure connectivity solutions. Following its deployment into orbit, Thuraya 4 initiated its electrical thrusters for Electrical Orbit Raising (EOR), a process expected to take several months until it reaches its geostationary orbit at 44° East, approximately 36,000 kilometres above Earth.

As one of the largest mobile satellite services (MSS) communication satellites, Thuraya 4 significantly enhances Space42’s capabilities. It aligns with the company’s ambitious plans to introduce over 15 new products across sectors such as defence, government, and enterprise. The satellite will provide increased security, faster speeds, and broader coverage spanning Africa, Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East.

Mansoor Al Mansoori, Chairman of Space42, highlighted the broader implications of the launch, stating: “Thuraya 4’s success underscores our commitment to innovation and solidifies the UAE’s leadership in the global SpaceTech sector. This achievement advances both our capabilities and the UAE’s National Space Strategy 2030.”

Karim Michel Sabbagh, Managing Director of Space42, added: “This milestone lays the foundation for next-generation satellite solutions, expanding opportunities for our partners and customers. It reaffirms our position in the global SatCom industry.”

Ali Al Hashemi, CEO of Yahsat Space Services, echoed these sentiments: “Thuraya 4 represents a monumental step in our mission to lead in non-terrestrial networks and emerging segments such as direct-to-device connectivity and IoT.”

Airbus, which developed the Thuraya 4 satellite, also celebrated the launch. Alain Fauré, Head of Space Systems at Airbus, stated: “The Thuraya 4 launch marks a milestone in our decade-long partnership with Space42. Leveraging the cutting-edge Eurostar Neo platform, this satellite enhances flexibility and reinforces our collaboration with Space42.”

The launch symbolises Space42’s growing role in reshaping global connectivity through cutting-edge satellite technology.
