Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and the Seoul Metropolitan Government signed an agreement to enhance collaboration on advanced transport technologies, including flying cars and autonomous vehicles. The memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the two cities also aims to promote the exchange of ideas on eco-friendly transport solutions. A particular emphasis will be placed on the adoption of electric and hydrogen bus fleets, as well as the development of the necessary infrastructure for electric and hydrogen fuelling stations.
Mattar Al Tayer, RTA Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, highlighted the shared strategic objectives between Dubai and Seoul. “Both cities can benefit greatly from exchanging best practices in the planning and operation of passenger transportation services, especially public transport buses,” said Al Tayer. He further noted the potential for developing sustainable and innovative mass transit solutions, including express buses on dedicated lanes and electric buses.
Oh Se-hoon, Mayor of Seoul, expressed enthusiasm for the mutual benefits anticipated from the collaboration on future mobility pilot projects. “As both cities actively invest in advancing future transportation systems, we anticipate mutually benefiting from the outcomes of these pilot projects for future mobility,” he remarked. These projects will include Urban Air Mobility (UAM) and autonomous vehicles, aiming to foster robust technology transfer and facilitate extensive knowledge exchange.
Additionally, Mayor Oh extended an invitation to the RTA to participate in the upcoming Seoul Smart Life Week, scheduled to take place from October 10 to 12 in Seoul, South Korea. This event is set to showcase further innovations and developments in smart city and transportation technologies.
