In a significant move for the global telecom sector, Saudi Arabia’s Advanced Communications and Electronic Systems Company (ACES) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Radisys Corporation, a global leader in open telecom solutions. The collaboration aims to advance 5G Open Radio Access Network (ORAN) and small cell technologies, bolstering efforts to develop scalable and interoperable telecommunications solutions.

“ACES is pleased to join forces with Radisys in this MOU to accelerate 5G small cell development in Saudi Arabia. With Radisys’ proven expertise in open, disaggregated telecom and ORAN-based solutions, we are confident that together we can drive impactful innovations for both local and international markets,” said Dr. Akram Aburas, CEO, ACES

The partnership will focus on creating ORAN-compliant 5G infrastructure for Saudi Arabia and international markets. Central to this effort is the establishment of a joint laboratory to facilitate testing, proof-of-concept trials, and the enhancement of ORAN-based software for small cell deployments. By combining Radisys’ software expertise with ACES’ understanding of the regional market, the collaboration seeks to deliver cutting-edge solutions that improve connectivity, network flexibility, and operational efficiency.

This initiative aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, emphasizing open network standards and exploring funding opportunities for further research. Both companies aim to strengthen the global telecommunications landscape while driving innovation in 5G technology.

“Partnering with ACES in this MOU allows Radisys to continue our commitment to co-create innovative ORAN-based telecom solutions. We’re eager to collaborate on the research and development of 5G small cell infrastructure for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. With our extensive background in disaggregated Open RAN and neutral host solutions, this collaboration will drive growth in actively shared infrastructure, bringing best-in-class connectivity to regional and international markets,” said Munish Chhabra, Head of Mobility Software and Services Business Unit, Radisys
