Emirates Development Bank (EDB) has unveiled the country’s first artificial intelligence laboratory tailored for People of Determination. Launched at the Emirates Down Syndrome Association in Dubai, the initiative forms part of the bank’s UAE Develops with Kindness campaign, aiming to advance healthcare and technology while fostering inclusivity.
The opening ceremony was attended by Ahmed Mohamed Al Naqbi, Chief Executive of EDB, alongside Eng. Marwan bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Land Department and Acting Director General of Dubai Municipality. Senior officials from EDB and the Emirates Down Syndrome Association were also present, underscoring the importance of the initiative.
The AI lab is designed to provide individuals with Down Syndrome access to cutting-edge educational tools and hands-on experience in artificial intelligence and robotics. The facility seeks to equip participants with the skills to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world while promoting greater inclusion within the sector.
Speaking at the launch, Mr Al Naqbi said: “In the spirit of Ramadan, we are honoured to expand our UAE Develops with Kindness campaign by introducing the nation’s first AI lab of its kind. This initiative reflects our commitment to empowering key sectors that drive national progress while improving lives through technological innovation. By combining cutting-edge solutions with a strong sense of social responsibility, we are helping to shape a future that is both inclusive and resilient.”
Dr Manal Jaroor, Chairperson of the Emirates Down Syndrome Association, described the launch as a transformative step for the community: “This laboratory is a crucial milestone in our mission to empower children with Down Syndrome, offering them new opportunities in innovation and technology. We believe in their extraordinary potential, and this facility will serve as a foundation for developing their skills and building their confidence. With the support of Emirates Development Bank, we are opening doors for exploration, creativity, and success. We deeply appreciate their commitment to this cause.”
The AI lab aligns with the UAE’s Year of the Community and EDB’s broader strategy of supporting mission-critical sectors, particularly healthcare and advanced technology. The initiative is the latest in a series of efforts launched under the UAE Develops with Kindness campaign during Ramadan, including community outreach programmes and partnerships aimed at fostering long-term social impact.
