Egypt Showcases Digital Transformation Vision at Giza Innovation Hub

Amr Talaat, Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, unveiled the nation’s Digital Strategy during a visit to the Creativa Innovation Hub in Giza. The tour, led by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, highlighted Egypt’s commitment to fostering technological growth and digital innovation across all governorates.
Talaat outlined plans to expand the Digital Egypt Innovation Hubs network, with a target of 27 hubs by 2025, up from three in 2016 and 23 in 2024. These hubs aim to equip citizens with digital skills, encourage freelance work, and nurture entrepreneurship through private sector collaboration. Key criteria for hub locations include centrality, proximity to universities, and space for activities.
The Digital Strategy focuses on three citizen-centric pillars: creating digital economy job opportunities, advancing innovation, and simplifying access to e-government services. Talaat underscored the role of robust digital infrastructure, investor-friendly regulations, and private sector partnerships as the strategy’s backbone.
During the tour, Talaat showcased the transformation of a heritage building in Giza into a Digital Egypt Innovation Hub, maintaining its architectural significance. Similar projects include hubs at the Sultan Hussein Kamel Palace in Cairo.
Support for startups is central to the strategy. Talaat highlighted partnerships with Babson College and 500 Global, offering consultancy and funding for startups at various stages, ranging from $100,000 for product development to $600,000 for market expansion. Initiatives also include networking events with Plug and Play and support for international growth.
The hubs offer advanced technology training, private sector-led employment programs, and a diploma in electronics design. Facilities include coworking spaces, startup incubators, training labs, and event venues. Over 1,000 startups and 100,000 trainees have benefited from these resources, with 20,000 using coworking spaces in 2024 alone.
Egypt ranks among the region’s top three nations for entrepreneurship and innovation. Talaat reaffirmed the government’s dedication to fostering a thriving digital economy, leveraging global partnerships and cutting-edge facilities to support growth.
