Kuwait MoI Installs AI Cameras for Traffic

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior (MoI) has unveiled the implementation of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) cameras to bolster road safety and ensure stricter enforcement of traffic regulations throughout Kuwait. This initiative reflects a commitment to reducing traffic-related incidents in a country where road accidents account for nearly 80% of total injuries annually, according to recent reports.
In a press release issued on Thursday, the ministry stated that the initiative aligns with the directives of Acting Prime Minister, Minister of Defense, and Minister of Interior Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Al-Saud Al-Sabah. The introduction of AI cameras is expected to enhance monitoring across the country’s roads, which saw over 56,000 reported traffic violations in 2023 alone.
The MoI highlighted that these AI-powered systems are designed to detect violations such as speeding, running red lights, and distracted driving, while also analyzing traffic patterns to prevent congestion. Studies from similar implementations in other Gulf countries indicate that AI-based monitoring can reduce dangerous driving incidents by up to 30%.
Motorists are urged to adhere to road safety rules, as this comprehensive traffic monitoring strategy seeks to curb reckless driving and improve overall safety on Kuwait’s roads. The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to achieving a significant drop in accident rates and enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors.
