Hi-tech Park Planned in Riyadh

A cutting-edge park featuring smart technologies and renewable energy is set to be developed in Riyadh, aimed at enhancing the quality of life in the rapidly growing Saudi capital, as announced by a municipal subsidiary.
The Remat Al Riyadh Company, the development arm of Riyadh’s Municipality, has signed an agreement with a real-estate developer to design, establish, operate, and maintain the park, which will be located in the Al Tawen neighbourhood. The park’s facilities will incorporate renewable energy, including glow-in-the-dark floors, and will feature smart, environmentally sustainable designs for benches, tables, rubbish bins, lighting, and various children’s play equipment.
According to the company, the project will promote the concept of a “quality park” through innovative design, smart technology, and the integration of interactive sound and light features. This aligns with the Saudi Green Initiative (SGI), launched in 2021 by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, which seeks to reduce emissions, promote afforestation, and regenerate land while protecting marine and terrestrial ecosystems.
The SGI aims to consolidate the kingdom’s efforts to address climate change, with clear goals to accelerate the transition to green energy. By 2030, the initiative plans to reduce global carbon emissions by over 4%, increase renewable energy to account for 50% of Saudi Arabia’s electricity production, and advance projects focused on clean hydrocarbon technologies.
